We are seeking a Special Education Assistant who wants to join a close-knit, supportive team who are enthusiastic about working with children with special needs.
This job allows for immediate growth and added compensation after the first 90 days of employment based on skills and capabilities to work in various capacities within the organization! Special Education Assistants work under the overall supervision of the Executive and Clinical Directors, with direct supervision provided by the support staff supervisor.
Special Education Assistants are required to implement special education or therapy carry-over services and/or to provide direct assistance to students.
Their duties will vary depending upon the age of the students served as well as the nature and severity of the student's disabilities.
Clinical Duties Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the Clinical Directors.
Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and intervention specialists.
Assist intervention specialists and therapists with maintaining student records.
Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
Provide ADL (Activities of Daily Living) support for individual students, such as bathroom assistance, assistance with eating, other self-care-related activities, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Administrative Duties Assist intervention specialists and therapists with material preparation.
Prepare classrooms and therapy rooms for students at the beginning and end of each day by cleaning, organizing, and setting up each room for the day's activities Light clerical works as assigned, such as making copies, organizing files, etc.
Cheerleader duties as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Be at least 18 years of age Have a high school diploma Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.
) Have at least 1 year of experience working with children with special needs (experience working with children with autism preferred) Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others.
Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
Have the willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position Support the Mission Statement of the organization.
Behave and speak in a professional manner at all times.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
Attend staff and team meetings.
Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
Requirements Must pass a criminal background check (BCI and FBI) Must be CPR and First Aid Certified Job Type:

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
